How it works

Create a free cycling route from your location

BikeRouteNow creates four different cycling routes from your chosen starting point. Enter how far you want to ride and choose from different route options, then compare the routes directly on the map.

  1. Enter your starting location.

  2. Choose a round trip or a route to a destination.

  3. Set your preferred distance.

  4. Choose from different route options.

  5. Compare four routes and download your favourite.

â–§ Create my cycling route

Which cycling routes can I create?

You can create a round trip from one starting point or plan a cycling route from A to B. BikeRouteNow generates four alternatives, so you do not have to choose every waypoint yourself.

Round trip from your location

Start and finish at your home, hotel, campsite or another chosen departure point.

Route from A to B

Plan a ride to a destination and add extra kilometres when you want a longer route.

Route at your preferred distance

Choose roughly how far you want to ride and compare the suggested routes.

Choose the route options that suit your ride

Take the current wind direction into account or favour greener, quieter sections. This lets you compare four route suggestions based on what matters to you.

You can enable Wind and Nature separately or combine them. The options guide route selection but remain dependent on current weather and map data.

Download your cycling route as GPX, KML, TCX or GeoJSON

After generating routes, you can download each one as GPX, KML, TCX or GeoJSON. GPX is the simplest choice for most bike computers and navigation apps.

FormatSuitable for
GPXImporting into Garmin, Wahoo and many navigation apps
TCXTraining devices and compatible cycling apps
KMLGoogle Earth and other mapping software
GeoJSONGIS software and technical applications

BikeRouteNow is free to use and does not require an account. You can create a route and download the route file immediately.

Check your route before you leave

Always check an automatically generated route before setting off. Roadworks, temporary closures and recent changes may not yet appear in the map data.

  • Always follow traffic rules and local signs.
  • Check ferries, seasonal closures and temporary roadworks.
  • Decide whether the distance and surface suit you and your bicycle.
  • Use a suitable bike computer or navigation app while riding.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the cycling route planner

Is BikeRouteNow free?

Yes. You can generate four route suggestions without an account and download your chosen cycling route for free.

Can I create a round trip from my own location?

Yes. Choose a starting location and preferred distance. BikeRouteNow then creates several round trips that start and finish at that location.

Can I download my route as GPX?

Yes. Every generated route can be downloaded as GPX. KML, TCX and GeoJSON are also available.

Does a GPX file work with Garmin and Wahoo?

GPX files can generally be imported into Garmin and Wahoo platforms. The exact process differs by device and app.

Is my entered route stored?

BikeRouteNow does not store entered addresses and routes in a user database. The privacy notice explains which temporary processing is needed to operate and protect the service.

Are the routes always current and accessible?

This cannot be guaranteed. Map data, roadworks and local closures can change, so always check the route and current traffic conditions.
